Welcome to the website for the Volunteer and Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association of Freeport. Every year we provide on average fifty members and their families with financial assistance when they are dealing with illness or financial hardship in their life. We also provide assistance by lending medical equipment, including wheelchairs, mobile scooters, walkers and more. We even provide assistance for corrective lenses, and funeral services.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing and Line Of Duty Death (9/11 Related cancer) of, Ex Chief, Member of the Association, and - 45 year member of the Department John H. Wensley of Wide Awake Engine Company #1, who passed away on February 2nd ,2025 at the age of 65. John joined the Freeport Fire Department in March 1979, and was Chief of the Department 2002-2003 . Our Condolences go out to his Wife Maureen, Daughter Lauren, Sons – Sean, and Kevin and to the rest of his family and friends, and to the Officers and Members of Wide-Awake Co.# 1 on their loss. Cremation services will be held on Saturday February 8th at Oak Island Elks LODGE #2769 106 E. Dolphin Drive Oak Island North Carolina. Visitation in New York, will be held at the Hungerford & Clark F.H. 110 Pine St. Freeport N.Y. on Saturday March 8th ,2025 2 to 4P.M. & 7 TO 9 P.M. DEPARTMENT SERVICE @ 1930 HRS.
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of, Ex Chief, Life member of the Association, and Department- 70 year member of the Department Carl “Sonny’ Wallman of Bayview Hose Company #3, who passed away on January 5th ,2025 at the age of 94. Carl joined the Freeport Fire Department in June 1949, and was Chief of the Department 1972-73 . Our Condolences go out to his Granddaughters-Tracie Vernon, Dawn Jacobson, Mary Catherine Holdener, Christina Wells, Jessica Leipfert, Grandson Thomas Holdener Jr. his 3 Great granddaughters, 6 Grandsons,2 great- great Granddaughters, and to the rest of his family and friends, and to the Officers and Members of Bayview Hose Co.# 3 on their loss. Cremation services were held in Florida., a Memorial service will be planned in the near future at the Hungerford & Clark Funeral Home in Freeport.
